Rachel Rocks Blog Hop May 15-19

It's weird.

Let's just get the elephant out of the room.

Having a blog hop with my name in it, makes me giggle, and well I may be a bit red right now from blushing. *Sigh* At any rate, I'm so thankful that the lovely Kim Bowman, Kay Springsteen, and Gunnar Gray, have decided to host a blog to celebrate my most recent book deal. ;)

One of the coolest things about the publishing world, is the people you meet. You build relationships with people for years without ever meeting them in person, and then when you do meet them in person it's almost like this surreal emotional experience! These gals are all ridiculously talented authors and amazing editors. I feel so blessed to have them in my life. ;)

*Wipes tears from eyes and soldiers on*

I want to talk books. I want to talk book boyfriends so bad that my hands itch. Holy crap, what's happened to me?

My latest release, Shatter, is the book I'm crushing on now. I mean, who wouldn't like not one, not two, but THREE bad boys? Two are rockstars, another is a movie star, I mean, need I go on?

The Seaside Series was my first dip into Self publishing. I wanted to write a New Adult book (NA is basically a new genre that deals with a lot of angst and coming-of-age topics)

I was sitting in Seaside, Oregon at the time...sick, as in so sick that I'm pretty sure at one point I was hallucating. And what, you may ask, was I hallucinating about?

Rockstars.
Two of them to be exact.
I kept thinking, wouldn't it be cool to write a story about two brothers torn between one girl, but what if they're hiding a secret? What if the one guy is actually good even though he appears dangerous, how can I reverse the typical roles?

I'm kind of in love with the whole "triangle" aspect. I truly believe in real life there will always be certain personality types that pull you, or possibly certain people that are RIGHT for you. There is of course the easy person. The person you fall into step with because it's just not challenging, and then theres the challenge. I wanted to write both of those characters.

What started as one book turned into four.

The third book Shatter, deals with Rockstar Alec Daniels and his demons from the past:

Sometimes the only way to heal... is to shatter.

Rock star Alec Daniels has it all. Love, fame, money... But being in the limelight isn't all it’s cracked up to be, and after one bad choice comes back to haunt him he is left picking up the pieces of his carefully constructed life. Now he faces the toughest decision of his life:
Deal with his mistake like a man, or dive back into the dark hole of depression, drugs, and denial that have been his comfort for so long.
One wrong move could destroy everything. His girlfriend, his family, and his future.

And just for fun, here's a tiny excerpt:

Her eyes widened a bit when I purposefully flexed my arm and then she looked down, a beautiful pink blush staining her cheeks. “Remember how I feel about your blushing?” I whispered, trying with very ounce of self-control I possessed, not to make a complete fool of myself and toss her over my shoulder cave-man style.
“Is it the same way you felt last night about—”
“—And we’re done.” My brother Demetri cleared his throat, appearing out of nowhere. “Can a person un-hear something? Anyone? Anyone?” He shook his head as if that would make everything go away and cursed. “Seriously, I’m almost embarrassed for the sand.”
“Why the hell would you be embarrassed for the sand?” I rolled my eyes and pulled Nat into my embrace, trailing my hands down her arms. I couldn’t get enough of her. Not by a long shot. Even touching her was enough to send my control out the window. Ha, she thought I had control. No. What I had was a lot of guilt that made me feel the need to control every damn situation until I thought I was going to shatter.
“Because you guys were all…” Demetri put his hands in the air and scowled. “Fornicating.”
“Fornicating?” I laughed, a bit thrown off that he not only knew a four-syllable word but the meaning behind it. “How the hell does one fornicate without—”
“—Okay, sorry to break this weird love triangle up…” Jaymeson stepped beside Nat and me. “But we’re supposed to go over to the bonfire and pretend to be bonding.” Jaymeson was an action star from the UK and one of our good friends. At least he was someone I could count on during all of the chaos that was our lives. I was actually relieved when they asked him to be part of the show. Against popular opinion, he was actually a really clean-cut guy. He never did drugs, never drank, and spent every Easter with his ninety-year-old grandma. Sometimes I hated that he made it look so easy. Fame wasn’t a big deal to him. Granted, he also slept with anything that looked cross-eyed at him, but whatever. He claimed it was because Americans were easy.
“Ah, reality TV at its finest,” I muttered back to him.
“Cheers.” Jaymeson winked at Nat and then slapped my ass. I lunged for him but Nat’s hand slipped to where Jaymeson’s hand had been, making me totally lose my train of thought. I sighed and kissed Nat gently across the lips. Her wet tongue licked my bottom lip and then slipped into my mouth. I wanted to throw her onto the ground.
“And we’ve come full circle.” Demetri cleared his throat. “Back to fornicating.”
I groaned against Nat’s mouth and cursed. “Do you really have nothing better to do than sit here and watch us fornicate? Really, Demetri? Is life that boring without drugs?”
Because of me, my brother had nearly killed himself last year and was finally out of rehab. I couldn’t take credit for pulling him out of his funk — nope, that honor went to Alyssa. She challenged him enough to grow a pair and put on his big boy pants.
Demetri’s wide smile did nothing for my mood. He pulled out a piece of taffy and winked. “Just getting you back for walking in on me and Alyssa.”
It’s possible I’d been ruining my brother’s mojo purposefully just to piss him off. I’d happily take that to my grave.
“Dude, you were moving slower than a snail.” I smirked and made a slow crawling gesture with my hands.
Laughter bubbled out of Nat. “So true.”
Demetri cursed. “If a snail is a kick-ass-ninja-track-athlete, then yeah. I was moving just like that.”
“Did he just compare himself to a ninja snail?” A female voice said from behind us. We all turned. Alyssa, Demetri’s’ girlfriend, was shaking her head and laughing. “Wow, wonders never cease. What were you yesterday, Demetri? A turtle, was it?”
“A turtle?” I repeated. All eyes turned to Demetri.
My brother’s eyes hooded with desire. “You can ride my shell anytime, you—”
“Children!” Jaymeson yelled from the bonfire. “If you’re all done getting in each other’s pants, we’ve got some fake filming to do for the future leaders of America!”
“Truer words have never been said.” Nat nodded solemnly.
“What we do, we do for our country,” I agreed as I grabbed her hand and kissed the back of it. “Later though?”
She winked. “Oh, I promise.”

Shatter: A Seaside Novel (Early Preview! Releasing May 19!)

Alec
Crap. What the hell were we going to do at a bed and breakfast? We could eat, but we couldn’t really sleep, not if we had that stupid restaurant opening in a few hours.
My control was seriously slipping. I flexed my hand and began reciting the states in alphabetical order. Other than burying myself deep in the girl I loved — it was the only way I could relax. Running had stopped working, and I knew it was absolute insanity to run fifteen miles a day. Singing helped, but we were supposed to be acting, not singing. Alabama, Alaska, Arizona…
I took the stairs two at a time. Arkansas, California Thankfully, the elderly couple was already waiting for me in the main dining room.
“Alec!” Mr. Smith came forward with arms open. I hugged him and then kissed Mrs. Smith on the cheek. There were only a few guests and most of them were over the age of sixty. They probably thought I was the Smiths’ grandson.
The familiar smell of the restaurant calmed me down. “I need a favor.”
“Anything.” Mrs. Smith pinched my bicep and winked. “Now, what can we do for you?”
What could they do? Oh you know, erase a few nights from my memory and convince Bob, my bodyguard, to assassinate the one person who could ruin my entire freaking existence with one push of a button. “Um, how about a room? Something nice? I want to spend some time with Nat away from everything.”
“Done.” Mr. Smith walked over to the main desk and pulled out a key. “Enjoy yourselves.”
I reached for my wallet to pull out my credit card, but he held up his gnarled old hands. “Oh no you don’t. You’ve done so much for our business already, son. This one’s on the house, alrighty?”
“Please. Let me pay.” I offered one last time. Charity made me feel nervous, like I couldn’t control the situation. Wow, I had issues.
“Nope. That’s final.” Mr. Smith held out his hand for me to shake it. I wanted to shake it. Instead, I just stared at it and told myself to stop freaking out. It was a free room for a few hours, not a house. Smiling, I reached for his hand and shook it.
“Thank you.”
“Have fun! And let us know what you want for your meal.” Mrs. Smith waved goodbye as I turned and jogged back out of the building.
Nat was in the middle of the patio, her blonde hair blowing in the wind. I could watch her forever. She tucked her hair behind her ears and crossed her arms. She had no idea how precious she was to me — or how deep she had etched herself into my soul. I couldn’t help but wonder would she curse me later for that very thing?
I tried to push the dark thoughts away, but it was hard. My brain felt fatigued, probably all that alphabetizing. I managed a smile as I walked up to her and whispered, “Surprise,” dropping the key into her hand.
“You bought me a car!  You shouldn’t have!”
I paused. “Wow, never actually thought about it. Do you want a car? I guess I could buy you a car. Would that make you happy?” I smirked at her eye roll. “Would you jump up and down and possibly make out in the backseat with me?”
“Maybe.” She blushed.
“Would you scream my name over and over and over again?” I kissed her hard on the mouth. “Would you be mine forever and always?” Damn, I was losing my mind. The need to be with her was trumping everything. I knew it was wrong. I was using her. Using the way she made me feel in order to push away my demons. But nothing else was working. Not the pills, not my ridiculous staff of people that I pay millions to keep. Nothing. Only her kisses, her touch. If I was going to hell, I wanted to take every shred of this feeling with me.
Nat exhaled and pulled back. “Yes. I would.”
“And all because of a car?” I squinted, trying to calm my heated body down. “Hmm, too bad this key doesn’t lead to a car. But…” I grabbed her hand. “I think you’ll still feel the same way when this afternoon is over with.”
“Oh? That confident, huh?”
I stopped and pulled her into my arms for another earth-shattering kiss. “Extremely.”

Elite---Are you in?

My newest book, Elite, just released on Amazon and Barnes! I wanted to release it early mainly as a thank you to all the readers who bought The Bet...

This story is a little different...it is college age....and there isn't a crazy grandmother, but there is a grandfather...four very interesting and attractive guys called "The Elect," and one very, very dark life altering secret....

Gossip girl meets The Godfather in this New Adult book...

When I won the annual Eagle Elite College Scholarship lottery, I was thrilled. After all, my grandma had just died and I wanted to take care of my aging grandpa -- he couldn't be a farmer in Wyoming forever. And graduating from Eagle Elite meant opportunity.
But I wasn't counting on meeting Nixon.

Nor was I counting on the rules of the Elect.

1. Do not touch The Elect.

2. Do not look at The Elect.

3. Do not speak to The Elect.

And worst of all? Don't discover the secret they hide, because in the end, you may just realize... it's about you.

The Bet--EPILOGUE

ALL of you are AMAZING! Thank you so much for making The Bet #1!!! And of course thank you for all your emails and reviews! Yes, there will be a sequel...and because you guys are all so awesome...here is the Epilogue that should have been in The Bet.

Epilogue
“I don’t know why you’re still so upset…it happens to every guy from time to time.” Kacey covered her mouth with her hand and averted her eyes. Groaning, Travis reached for the door knob and glared.
“Really? That’s what your going to go with? It happens to every guy?”
Kacey shrugged and leaned against the doorway, “Hey I’m just defending my fiancĂ©. It’s not your fault you can’t perform.”
Cursing, Travis pulled her against his body, “Sweetheart, I don’t really think performance is my issue.”
“No.” Kacey grinned up at him and kissed his nose, “But admit it, when the bear appeared on the giant screen you screamed like a little girl.”
“Did not.” Travis snorted, “The girl scream you heard was from the six year old behind us. Seriously, what parents take a child to a horror movie!”
“Really?” Kacey’s brows lifted, “Do you even realize how badly you set yourself up or do you just not care that everything you say makes it easy for me to make fun of you.”
            “I—“
“—you screamed. Loudly. The nice pimpled high schooler working at the theatre had to make an announcement for the parents to take out all small children.”
Travis shrugged, “I hate scary movies, so sue me.”
            “You hate furry animals.”
“It had fangs and slaughtered an entire family.”
            “Movie, Trav, it’s a movie.”
Well what could he say to that? He’d already lost half his manhood in that theatre when he unintentionally screamed. In his defense the giant bear on screen wouldn’t have shocked the hell out of him like it did if Kacey knew how to properly eat popcorn.
A kernel was resting quite nicely on her left breast. He knew it was her left because he watched it like a spider watches a fly. Watched and waited for it to fall, so he’d have the totally lame excuse to rescue said kernel and then maul his fiancĂ© in the movie theatre.
It’s not his fault he’d always wanted to make out at the movies with a hot girl. And if Kacey didn’t want him to be so damn distracted she shouldn’t keep wearing such low cut shirts!
“Are you sweating?” Kacey felt his forehead.
God he needed sex. Swatting her hand away he laughed uncomfortably, “Nope, I’m fine. Should we go in?”
“Yeah?” Kacey frowned, “Nobodies answering the door?”
Travis shrugged and walked into the house.
Nothing in his life could have prepared him for that moment.
Some things just can’t be unseen.
“Grandma!” He and Kacey said in unison.
She was on the couch with Mr. Casbon feeding him chocolate dipped strawberries which would have been odd yet  normal for the woman had she not been showing an ungodly amount of pink lingerie.
            “Took my advice.” Kacey whispered.
“Victoria Secret!” Grandma pointed to her bra and winked.
“My eyes!” Travis turned and began waving wildly in the air, “Grandma, put more clothes on. God do you even own a sweater?”
“I hope not!” This from Mr. Casbon.
“Holy hell I want to die right now.” Travis muttered under his breath while the room erupted into laughter.
            “No you don’t.” Kacey whispered.
            “Pretty sure I do.”
            “I picked a date.”
“For my insanity? Thanks, yeah, a person experiences that after seeing his grandmother naked!”
“I’m not naked!” Grandma shouted while Mr. Casbon answered, “Too bad.”
Kacey wrapped her arms around Travis, “Open your eyes.”
“So I can see my grandma in various states of undress?” He all but yelled.
Kacey kissed him hard across the mouth pushing his hands out of the way. Getting caught up in the moment, he wrapped his arms around her and opened her mouth with his tongue tasting her, memorizing her.
            A throat cleared.
            Kacey pulled back.
“Oh right.” She cleared her throat, “I picked a date.”
            “You keep saying that but…”
And then the lights flickered on.
Jake stood on the opposite end of the room with a skank wrapped around him. Typical. His parents held a cake, and champagne was in everyones hands.
            “I’m confused.”
Kacey tugged at his hand and laughed, “Good. I was hoping you would be.”
What the hell was going on? Grandma stood, adjusted her shirt, clearly she hadn’t been acting, and took a glass of champagne from a nearby table.
He turned to face Kacey, “I still don’t get it.”
She grinned. God she was beautiful. How could he have ever survived without her?
“It all started this way, Trav. You and me getting caught by grandma, not even realizing it was a set up in the first place. I wanted to re-live it. Relive the moment that shocked us both into realizing we had feelings. The manipulation, the lies, it all started here. Even when we were kids it started here. And I want it to end here.”
Holy shit she was breaking up with him?
“Here.” Kacey squeezed his hand, her eyes welling with tears, “I want to get married here, at your parents house. This fall.”
“You mean it?” Travis choked on the words. They’d been going back and forth on where to get married. Up until now Kacey had been convinced they should go to Vegas, leave out all the crazy family antics.
Kacey nodded, her face breaking out into a gorgeous smile, “I love you Travis Titus. Marry me here?”
            “I’d marry you anywhere.”
“Backyard.” She nudged him, then reached up and whispered in his ear, “Treehouse…the grass where we had our first kiss, the room where we were first together…here Travis. I want to get married at home.”
With a shout he picked her up and swung her in his arms, raining kisses all over her face. “It’s a deal.”
“To the happy couple.” Jake announced as Travis set Kacey down. “To my brother and friend. I’m happy for you guys.” His eyes looked sad, his body worn, no way was Jake going to last in the type of lifestyle he was living. He already looked like he was one drink away from dying.
            “Cheers!” Everyone said in unison.
“He needs a woman.” Travis muttered uner his breath.
“I’ve got just the one.” Kacey nudged him with her elbow, “She’s going to bring him to his knees.”
            “Wanna bet?”
“Not a bet…A wager.” Kacey turned towards him and winked, “I wager he’ll be begging for her to marry him by the time we say I do.”
            “And if you’re wrong?”
She bit down on her lip and winked, “I guess we can come up with the terms tonight…”
            “At the house.”
            “Yeah.”
Travis set down her champagne and grabbed her ass, “Or now?”
            “Treehouse?” She said breathless.
            “Treehouse.”
